Krystel Gualdé
Krystel Gualdé is a historian and art historian. She is the Head of Science at the Nantes’ history museum and Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery. A specialist on the Atlantic slave trade and colonial slavery, she has led the museum in many partnerships and scientific networks both nationally and internationally. She is a member of the advisory unit for the Foundation for the Remembrance of Slavery and the SLAFNET Project (Slavery in Africa) and is working towards the decolonialisation of gaze and discourse at the Nantes history museum, including an appeal for contributions from African historians and intervention from contemporary African artists as part of the “Expressions décoloniales” exposition. In 2021 and 2022 she curated the exhibition “The Abyss. Nantes’s role in the slave trade and colonial slavery, 1707-1830”, and is the author of several publications linked to the event.
